| Bellisama Chapter No. 405 |
The Bellisama Chapter of Knights of the Pelican
and Eagle, and Sovereign Princes Rose Croix of H.R.D.M.,
No. 405.
The Chapter was consecrated on 26th October 1948, and
is one of two Chapters Rose Croix, in the Preston Group. An extract from Camden's "Britannia" 1693 gives the derivation
of the name: "Next to the Mersey, this is the first river here that falls into the Ocean: the old name whereof is not quite
left to this day; for Ptolemy calls the estuary here "Bellisama", and we "Ribell" by adding perhaps the Saxon word Rhe which signifies a river."
The Chapter meets on the first Friday in January, March and November with the November meeting
being the "Enthronement" meeting for the Most Wise Sovereign, and the appointment
of the Officers for the year.
The Chapter is very popular and well attended, and the
atmosphere is very friendly, especially to the many visitors who attend from other Rose Croix Chapters in the area.
