| The Halcyon Lodge No. 6500 |

Preliminary discussions
for the founding of a new Lodge were begun at a special
meeting of the members of our Mother Lodge, Lodge of
Unanimity No.113 on 27th June 1946. Seventeen Brethren
signified their intention of becoming founders if a petition
for a new Lodge was granted. A sub-committee was formed
to discuss preliminary arrangements and to take such steps
as they deemed desirable to promote the new Lodge. The
sub-committee and the founders met on a number of occasions
during the intervening months to take the necessary decisions
and to prepare the petition to the M.W.Grand Master.
It was at this time that the name of the Lodge was finally
adopted, after considering, in all, seventeen alternatives.
At first the name Amity was favoured but eventually the name
of Halcyon was preferred. It was believed, at the time that
there were no other Lodges of that name under the English
Constitution. It was later learned that two other Lodges bearing
the name of Halcyon did exist, one meeting in Oldham No.5300
and one in London No. 3546.
The petition was signed in open Lodge at the meeting of Unanimity
Lodge on 20th February 1047.
The petition contained the names of twenty four founders.
The primary reason given for the petition was "to facilitate
promotions in the various offices which are discouragingly
tedious in a Lodge comprising some 160 members and particularly
so since it has been necessary to suspend applications for
the present"
In a letter dated 9th May 1947, teh Provincial Grand Secretary
announced that the M.W. Grand Master had acceded to the prayer
of the petition for The Halcyon Lodge, which would be numbered
6500.
The Lodge was consecrated by the then Provincial Grand Master,
R.W. Bro. Arthur Foster assisted by his team of Provincial
Officers on 6th April 1948.
The Lodge meets on the Second Friday in the Months of October
to May inclusinve with the Installation meeting in December.
