Penwortham
Chapter No.5874 was consecrated on 6th.October
1965 at The MasonicTemple, Saul Street, Preston where
it has met continuously ever since, by Most Excellent
Companion L.E.Rutherford, the Grand Superintendent of
the Royal Arch Province of West Lancashire. Members
of the consecrating team including E.Comp. Revd. Tom
Walsh who was later to become an Honorary Member and
E.Comp.Alan Ferris, a future Grand Superintendent.
An
early bye-law restricting membership to those residing
in the Ancient Parish of Penwortham which extended as
far as Leyland has since been rescinded but many connections
are still proudly maintained with Penwortham, not least
the crest featuring St.Mary’s historic Parish Church
which is displayed prominently on the Chapter Summons.
The
Chapter has introduced over one hundred Companions
to Royal Arch Freemasonry from Lodges not only from
the Preston Group but also from those in the Leyland and
Chorley Groups who wish to further their masonic friendships
and connections and is always delighted to warmly welcome
those who might care to visit.
Penwortham
Chapter might be strong on tradition thus mirroring the
wishes of its revered Founders but has, nonetheless,
shown itself to be ready to adapt to the winds of change
and the demands of the modern masonic world.
Meeting
on the first Wednesdays in the months of October (Installation),
December, February and April , the Chapter now eagerly
approaches its Fiftieth Anniversary, continues to attract
a flow of new members and has entered the Third Millennium
in good spirit
